Design systems
From August 2021 to June 2023, I helped establish Form v1 as a shared foundation for product design and development across Lyse and Altibox. I joined as a designer and led the work during its final seven months.
Why Lyse needed a shared system
Products across Lyse and Altibox used different designs, with little consistency between them. Teams also lacked a common framework for design and development. An earlier design system served Altibox, but it did not cover the wider needs of Lyse.
My role
I worked on Form from August 2021 until June 2023. I started as a designer and took over as lead for the final seven months of Form v1. I worked with the product owner, technical lead, developers, another designer and stakeholders across the Lyse organisation.
Establishing the foundations
The most difficult part was agreeing on the token foundation for colour and typography. These tokens are the shared named values used in design and code. Many people had opinions about the visual foundations, so I had to collect, assess and reconcile feedback from across the organisation.
A common direction
During the project, designers and developers across Lyse began to gather around the design system. Teams started reconsidering both their technical foundations and how they designed products. Form was becoming a common reference that made it easier to discuss decisions across departments.
