Design systems
I joined the Equinor Design System team in August 2025 and became Design Lead in April 2026. I work across the system's design, documentation and direction while the team rebuilds its foundations and components.
Working across the whole system
Most of my work is design, documentation and coordination, with development and research forming a smaller part of the role. I have worked across every component in EDS, implemented some components in code, written component documentation, and helped rewrite the documentation site.
I also create scripts and small tools that reduce repetitive work and help me maintain the system. Working across design files, documentation and code makes it easier to follow a decision from its foundation to the way product teams use it.
A shared public foundation
EDS is public and is used through Figma libraries and npm packages in Equinor applications. It provides the foundation that product teams use when they design and build interfaces.
A shared language for design and code
I led the definition of the EDS token foundation, the system of named values that connects visual decisions in Figma with their implementation in code. I established a consistent structure and naming model, giving designers and developers a shared reference for colour, typography and spacing across components and products.
Keeping the system coherent
Requests come from teams with different needs. We assess whether a recurring pattern belongs in public EDS or should remain within one product. This keeps the shared system focused and means declining additions that would only serve one narrow use case.
The work also develops over long periods. Components and foundations need to remain consistent while they are researched, designed, implemented, documented and prepared for release.
Where the rebuild stands
EDS provides the shared foundation for many internal tools and products. Product teams use its Figma libraries and npm packages as part of everyday design and development.
The EDS rebuild is still underway, so its effect cannot yet be measured as a finished change. The team receives positive feedback from users and continues to adjust the system as teams apply it in their products.
